Special Volunteer Event

CACFP always appreciates the many hours volunteers devote to the operation of our food pantry. This year we especially want to honor them in the memory of a beloved volunteer, Pauline Johnstone, who passed away June 1st of last year.

Pauline dedicated over 20 years to the running of CACFP. She was one of the original founders and remained on the Board of Directors during her entire tenure at CACFP, being its president for several of those years. She wore many other hats as well and gave numerous hours of her time - too many to count - to the well-being of its operation, its volunteers and the families we serve.

The event was held at the food pantry on 128 Mt Battie St. At the beginning of the event a memorial plaque in her name --- Founding Member and Guiding Light 1999-2022, Pauline Johnstone Legacy Honor Roll --- was unveiled before a group of 70-80 family members, volunteers and friends. Twenty-two other volunteer names, who devoted themselves above the norm, are on the plaque as well. Volunteers are the backbone to the functioning of CACFP. We pride ourselves in being a totally volunteer organization. Although we are open only twice a week, on most any given day you may find one or more volunteers working on a behind-the-scenes task that is crucial to our being able to provide food for families in need. We now serve several towns outside the nucleus of towns we originally provided for. We are committed to helping any family in need of food.

Those who attended enjoyed the camaraderie of volunteers they work with and maybe got to meet other volunteers whose paths do not normally cross one another. Family members of honorees got to see our facility and meet the volunteers their loved ones work/worked with.

Besides enjoying conversation and a wonderful buffet of food, we offered a special drawing of gift certificates from local area businesses. The businesses that donated were: Camden Deli, Camden House of Pizza, Graffam Bros. Seafood, The Green Thumb, Maritime Farms, Planet Toys, Plants Unlimited, Scott’s Place, Seasons Downeast Designs, The Smiling Cow, Uncle Willy’s and Zoot Coffee. We truly appreciate their generosity in helping us thank our volunteers in a special way for their service.

Again, many thanks to our forty plus volunteers who are often heard to say, “I love working here”. We love having them. The heart of Pauline continues onward.
